About the Nutcracker

The Nutcracker ballet is based on the book The Nutcracker and the King of Mice, written by E.T.A. Hoffman. The basic premise follows a young German girl's dreams of a Nutcracker Prince, and a battle with a Mouse King that has seven heads.[5] First performed at the Mariinsky Theatre in Moscow, The Nutcracker was originally choreographed by Marius Petipa, with music composed by Tchaikovsky.[1] Although Nutcracker performances continue to feature the music of Tschaikovsky, the choreographer sometimes differs.[6]
