The Birmingham Zoo opened in 1955, and continues to entertain visitors from Alabama and beyond.[1] The zoo is home to 800 animals (covering 200 species), including 60 mammals, 80 reptile species, and 80 bird species.[2] Animals include flamingos, tortoise, lemurs, foxes, raccoons, pandas, kangaroos, beavers, orangutans, bobcats, tigers, and elephants.[3]

Birmingham Zoo's Boo at the Zoo Coupons

Every October, the Birmingham Zoo hosts its annual Halloween event, Boo at the Zoo. The 2013 event takes place on October 4-6, 11-13, 18-20, 23-27 & 31. The event offers a variety of activities for visitors, including trick-or-treating, games, and rides such as "The Eerie Express" and the "Scarousel." Animals are not on display during the event, though there is a Wildlife Show. The event costs $8 for members and $6 non-members, although there is an additional cost of $3.50 for ride tickets, or guests are able to save money by purchasing a ride wristband for $12. [4]

Local media outlets such as ABC 33/40 occasionally offer free ticket giveaways for the event.[6]

About Birmingham Zoo

The Birmingham Zoo is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed on Christmas Day and Thanksgiving Day. The admission price is $14 for adults, $9 for seniors 65 and over, $9 for children 2-12, and free for children under the age of two.[4]

In addition to the numerous animal exhibits, the zoo also offers shows, rides (for an additional fee), and animal feedings to entertain visitors.[4]
